James Michael Mathis[edit]

James Michael (J. Michael) Mathis is a molecular biologist who is currently Professor and Department Head of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at Louisiana State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Adjunct Professor at LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport. He has previously held an academic appointment and tenure at LSU Health Sciences Center at Shreveport (Assistant, Associate and Professor in Cellular Biology and Anatomy), and an academic appointment at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas (Research Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology).

Background[edit]

Michael Mathis was born in Goliad, Texas and was raised in Dallas, Texas. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry at Texas A&M University. He completed his graduate work at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry. He had postdoctoral training in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of California, San Diego. He completed management training through a Master's degree in Health Administration from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
